The Crescent Moon Lodge and Retreat Center is a special, spiritual place founded by a woman whose life’s work has been helping people heal, achieve internal peace and realize their true potential.
The name of the lodge is symbolic both personally and professionally to its founder, Dr. Suzanne Hales, a licensed professional counselor, certified Imago Therapist and Jungian analyst-in-training who also founded Counseling and Consulting Associates of North Texas (CCA North Texas) in McKinney. She is also a longtime member of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Hales opened the Crescent Moon Lodge and Retreat Center near the Texas-Oklahoma border to provide a unique place for fellow therapists and counselors to hold workshops, group sessions and retreats. The Crescent Moon Lodge and Retreat Center also welcomes area nonprofits, churches, scout troops, quilters, scrapbooking enthusiasts, corporate retreats, families – or anyone else looking for a serene setting with luxurious accommodations in which to unwind.
The 5,000-square-foot lodge is located on 160 wooded acres that formerly belonged to Dr. Hales’ mother. On the night that Dr. Hales’ mother died, Dr. Hales was sitting outdoors, full of grief.
“In the late hours of the night, the crescent moon appeared just above the tree line, and I knew that I would offer her refuge as a retreat center – a place of healing and comfort for those who would seek beauty in the world of nature,” Dr. Hales explained.
“So the name of this place is the Crescent Moon, because the crescent moon allows enough light for travelers to see the next step, not enough light for the whole journey,” she said.
And, Dr. Hales noted, it is quite a journey – especially for anyone seeking to change their life, find their purpose or realize their full potential. Therapists know that this introspective journey is often slow and sometimes wearisome but always worthwhile. “It’s a journey inward under the light of the crescent moon to find the authentic self,” Dr. Hales said.
Upcoming workshops at the Crescent Moon Lodge and Retreat Center will provide encouragement, support, information and assistance to help clients achieve the life changes they seek. In addition, licensed professional counselors, social workers, therapists and a psychiatrist at CCA North Texas provide counseling, psychotherapy and psychiatric care for adults, children, couples and families.
As Carl Jung said, “The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are. … Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakes.”
